He Yang, Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, recently revealed that China will significantly enhance its investment in research and development (R&D) for pivotal nuclear power technologies. This initiative aims to fortify innovation capabilities across materials, fuels, software, processes, and other crucial domains, thereby refining the scientific and technological innovation system for nuclear power. Simultaneously, the country will propel the R&D and demonstration of cutting-edge nuclear power technologies, including small reactors and fourth-generation reactors, to seize the burgeoning opportunities in nuclear power development. Ensuring safety as a paramount priority, China will methodically advance the construction of coastal nuclear power facilities, fostering a multi-tiered development landscape. Furthermore, it will expedite the testing and demonstration of advanced nuclear power technologies, actively promoting nuclear heating and comprehensive utilization to harness the full potential of nuclear energy.
