China has recently imposed export controls on seven categories of medium and heavy rare earths, prompting a flurry of activity among US companies seeking to establish alternative supply chains. To address the ensuing rare earth shortage, Western Digital has partnered with Microsoft and other companies to initiate a pioneering program focused on recycling rare earths.
