The United States has enacted stringent new regulations targeting China's chip sector, effectively embargoing advanced semiconductor processes below 16 nanometers (nm). Prior to this, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) at the U.S. Department of Commerce had issued two key directives: one aimed at updating export controls on cutting-edge computing semiconductors, and the other involved adding 16 Chinese and foreign entities, including 14 Chinese entities, to the Entity List. These measures are designed to preclude the misuse of advanced U.S. technologies and mitigate potential national security risks.
