Hartmut Neven, the head of Google's quantum division, made a bold announcement on February 5th, revealing that the tech giant aims to introduce commercial quantum computing applications within the next five years. Prior to this, Google had already unveiled its quantum chip, Willow, at the close of last year. Neven expressed Google's unwavering confidence in the future, anticipating the emergence of practical applications within the next half-decade that can solely be achieved through quantum computing. These applications span various fields, including new energy development, advanced battery manufacturing, and novel drug research and development. Nonetheless, Jen-Hsun Huang, the founder and CEO of NVIDIA, holds a contrasting perspective. He believes that the widespread adoption of quantum technology will take approximately 20 years.
