The Japanese firm, Rapidus, is constructing a cutting-edge 2nm chip fabrication plant in Hokkaido, with plans to commence trial production in April 2025, aiming for mass production by 2027. According to Atsuyoshi Koike, President of Rapidus, the factory's construction is progressing seamlessly, with over 200 pieces of equipment scheduled for installation to ensure the timely kickoff of trial operations. This endeavor aims to mitigate Rapidus' reliance on external chip suppliers and showcase Japan's capabilities in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, with NVIDIA expected to be among its prominent customers.
