Bloomberg reported on Friday that U.S. authorities are conducting an investigation into whether the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek procured advanced NVIDIA processors through Singaporean distributors in an attempt to bypass U.S. Department of Commerce sanctions. The probe specifically examines whether DeepSeek circumvented U.S. restrictions on the export of advanced chips to China and utilized NVIDIA technology in the development of its R1 model. NVIDIA has previously affirmed that DeepSeek adheres to export control regulations, whereas DeepSeek has yet to issue a response to requests for comment.
