Apple CPUs have recently fallen prey to novel SLAP and FLOP side-channel attacks. These vulnerabilities affect all Mac laptops released since 2022, all Mac desktops from 2023 onwards, and iPhone, iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Mini models introduced since 2021. Researchers at Georgia Tech have revealed that these attacks exploit weaknesses in Load Address Prediction (SLAP) and Faulty Load Output Prediction (FLOP) on Apple Silicon, potentially jeopardizing web browsers via malicious JavaScript or WebAssembly code. Despite being notified of this issue last year, Apple has yet to implement a mitigation. For in-depth details, please refer to the whitepaper published by Georgia Tech.
