The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has recently unveiled the "2025 Annual Project Guide for the Major Research Plan on the Scientific Foundations of Frontier Technologies in Integrated Chips." This initiative aims to bolster the strategic imperative for high-performance integrated circuits in China, tackle pivotal fundamental challenges in the realm of integrated chips, nurture internationally renowned research teams, and fortify independent innovation capabilities. The plan envisions exploring novel principles for integrated chips, with an ambitious target of enhancing chip performance by one to two orders of magnitude. Funding will be directed towards cultivation projects and key support projects, with a preference for highly original and distinctly interdisciplinary endeavors. Additionally, open-source dissemination of research outcomes is mandated. Specifically, the plan intends to finance 10 cultivation projects, 6 key support projects, and 2 integration projects. Eligible applicants must possess a background in basic research and hold a senior professional title.
