A collaborative effort between Kyoto University and Toyota Motor Corporation has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, tripling the cathode capacity of all-solid-state fluoride ion batteries compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. This advancement is projected to deliver a volumetric energy density exceeding twice that of current lithium-ion batteries. With aspirations of integrating this technology into electric vehicles by 2035, it could potentially double the driving range to an impressive 1,200 kilometers. Currently, the research team is focusing on the development of anodes and solid electrolytes to complete the assembly of fully functional batteries.
