Guangdong Aims for 43% Surge in New Energy Vehicle Production in 2024, Capturing One-Fourth of National Output

On January 15, the third session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress commenced. The Guangdong Provincial Government Work Report for 2025, encapsulating the achievements of 2024, highlighted that the province's research and development expenditure is anticipated to reach 510 billion yuan, marking an R&D investment intensity of roughly 3.6%. Additionally, the number of high-tech enterprises is projected to hover around 77,000. Guangdong has consistently topped the nation's regional innovation capacity rankings for eight years running, while the "Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou" technology cluster has secured the second position globally in the innovation index for five consecutive years.

In terms of industrial growth, the value-added contributions of advanced manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing accounted for 56.7% and 31.6% of the above-scale industry, respectively. Notably, new energy vehicle production witnessed a significant 43% increase, capturing one-fourth of the national total. Industrial robot production also surged by 31.2%, accounting for 44% of the national output. Smartphone production rose by 12.5%, commanding over 40% of the national market, and integrated circuit production grew by 21%, representing 18% of the national total.
