On January 13, 2025, Apple Inc. will stand before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal in a class action lawsuit, marking a landmark trial in the UK against a major technology giant for alleged antitrust violations. The tech behemoth is accused of levying "excessive and unfair" fees on software downloaded from its App Store, facing legal claims potentially amounting to £1.5 billion. Should the parties fail to reach a last-minute settlement, the seven-week trial will proceed in its entirety. The plaintiffs contend that Apple abuses its dominant market position by imposing commissions as high as 30%. Notably, Apple's newly appointed Chief Financial Officer will also take the stand to testify in court.
