November 5 – US stock index futures showed mixed performance on Thursday, as investors pulled funds from semiconductor stocks for a second straight session. Market attention has shifted from the initial post-midterm election rally to evaluating how Democratic control of Congress might affect the market. Concerns that full Democratic control could lead to tighter regulation of US data centers and weigh on semiconductor demand have continued to pressure chipmakers and memory chip stocks. Weak market reactions following Arm and Qualcomm earnings also fueled selling pressure. However, traders cautioned that broader market trends should not be read as a fundamental shift in investor preferences. JPMorgan's equity derivatives team believes the sector rotation is driven more by position adjustment than by fundamental changes. Christina Jones said in a report that clients have not yet been seen making large-scale shifts to go long on other sectors or chase previously lagging stocks, with real capital rotation limited to the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. She also noted that investors clearly favor holding quality large-cap stocks, especially companies with clear financing channels and computing power resources, such as certain hyperscale tech companies.
