A research team from the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences has prepared a series of amorphous halide solid electrolytes, xNaBF₄–ZrCl₄, using low-cost NaBF₄ and ZrCl₄ as precursors via a one-step mechanochemical method. The material achieves a room-temperature ionic conductivity of 1.01 mS/cm, and all-solid-state sodium batteries assembled with it can cycle stably for 400 cycles within the voltage range of 2.5–4.2 V, while also demonstrating excellent low-temperature capacity retention. The strategy proposed by the team—where cation competitive coordination induces anion rearrangement, thereby producing polyhedral distortion—provides important guidance for the source design of low-cost amorphous halide solid electrolytes.
