November 4 — Despite the possibility that a Democratic election victory could lead to stricter restrictions on data center construction, Nvidia shares still climbed on Wednesday. Strong results from major chip industry players suggest that market concerns over data center construction delays have not immediately spilled over to Nvidia and other hardware companies. Customers continue to rush to stockpile artificial intelligence hardware, even as it remains uncertain whether suitable sites will be available to install the equipment in the future. The defeat of Republican governors in Texas and Ohio means AI infrastructure development will face stricter scrutiny. Mark Haefele, chief investment officer at UBS Global Wealth Management, wrote in a research note: "Increased congressional oversight will not necessarily hinder the AI investment cycle. Comprehensive federal-level restrictions would face constraints from both legislation and presidential authority, while state and local regulations still have a greater impact on the timing and siting of data center construction." Should Democratic politicians push for severe restrictions on AI data center construction, Nvidia will face greater challenges ahead. For now, however, the market is more focused on signs that chip demand remains strong following the stock's recent weak performance.
