According to sources familiar with the matter, Japan Investment Corporation (JIC), a government-backed fund, is planning to sell semiconductor materials manufacturer JSR to Mitsui Chemicals in a deal that could exceed 1.3 trillion yen (approximately 8.2 billion USD). A decision is expected as early as this month. The sources declined to be named, citing the non-public nature of the information. The transaction could rank among the largest in Japan's chemical industry, surpassing Showa Denko's 2020 acquisition of Hitachi Chemical, which led to the formation of Resonac Holdings.
