Global investment firm Brookfield has appointed KB Kookmin Bank as the lead arranger for South Korea's largest syndicated loan in history, aimed at supporting South Korean tech giant NAVER's procurement of artificial intelligence chips. The appointment was announced on November 2. In a Sunday statement, KB Kookmin Bank said the loan proceeds will be used to procure AI computing infrastructure, including GPUs. The loan totals 10.7 trillion Korean won (approximately $8 billion) and forms part of a broader 12.6 trillion won financing package. The bank noted that this marks South Korea's first large-scale GPU financing transaction, with the AI chips to be provided to NAVER Cloud through long-term leasing arrangements. Asian banks and private credit funds are increasingly expanding their AI financing businesses, covering data center construction and computing hardware equipment.
