Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk revealed that the two companies plan to manufacture and test approximately 10 chip designs annually at the Terafab R&D wafer fab located within the Texas Gigafactory. Musk pointed out that traditionally, it takes two years for significant chips to progress from R&D to mass production, and the new goal aims to significantly shorten the chip development cycle. He clarified that the target of 10 designs per year refers to accelerating the manufacturing and testing iterations of chips, rather than mass-producing 10 different chips annually. Musk added that the two-year timeline from design to mass production for main chips is already considered relatively fast in the industry.
