Microsoft is set to embark on a significant expansion by deploying its self-developed Maia series AI chips in its data centers, with an ambitious total capacity reaching several gigawatts, starting from 2027. This strategic move underscores Microsoft's commitment to leveraging its proprietary hardware to furnish robust computational support for AI software applications. Central to this initiative is the upcoming deployment of the latest-generation Maia 300 chip in 2027. The Maia 300, crafted using a cutting-edge 2-nanometer process and integrated with HBM4 memory, is engineered to significantly boost AI inference capabilities. It is tailored to meet the rigorous demands of tasks involving long-context reasoning and low-latency conversations, ensuring seamless and efficient AI operations. Prior to this, Microsoft has already unveiled two preceding generations of chips, namely the Maia 100 and Maia 200. Notably, the Maia 200 has been successfully deployed in production environments, where it efficiently handles workloads for applications like Microsoft Copilot, demonstrating Microsoft's prowess in developing and implementing advanced AI chip technologies.
