Since late August, the world’s leading chip stocks have staged a rebound. However, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have struggled to keep pace, with gains capped at a mere 1%, underscoring their underperformance compared to their global peers during this chip sector recovery. Between August 31 and October 8, foreign investors offloaded a net KRW 22 trillion (approximately USD 15.4 billion) worth of shares in these two South Korean semiconductor behemoths. Data from the Korea Exchange reveals that Samsung Electronics’ stock price inched up by 0.77%, while SK Hynix’s edged higher by just 0.43% over the same period. In stark contrast, Micron Technology soared by 11.90%, TSMC’s American Depositary Receipts climbed 12.55%, NVIDIA rose 6.89%, and Kioxia advanced 5.05%—all significantly outpacing the South Korean duo.
