On October 11, sources close to the matter informed the Financial Times that NVIDIA is currently engaged in discussions to either acquire Reflection AI outright or to expand its existing investment in the company. Reflection AI is a U.S.-based developer specializing in open-weight models. The negotiations are still at a preliminary stage, with multiple transaction structures under consideration. One notable option is an "acqui-hire," a strategic move that would enable NVIDIA to onboard Reflection AI's talented workforce and secure technology licenses, thereby circumventing the extensive regulatory scrutiny typically associated with a full-scale acquisition.
NVIDIA already holds a significant stake in Reflection AI, positioning it as one of the startup's major shareholders. In addition to a potential acquisition, NVIDIA may opt to strengthen its collaboration with Reflection AI through further equity investments or agreements aimed at supplying additional chips and computing resources. According to insiders, the two companies are on track to potentially finalize an agreement within the next few weeks. Notably, Reflection AI was valued at $25 billion during a funding round conducted in March of this year.
