On the 9th, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development unveiled its Trade and Development Report 2026, which anticipates a global GDP growth rate of 2.6% for the year 2026, marking a decline from the 2.9% growth observed in 2025. Developing economies, in particular, are expected to experience a slowdown, with their growth rate projected to drop from 4.7% in 2025 to 4%. The report highlights that Asia will be the primary contributor to global economic growth in 2026, accounting for 59% of the total increase, with East Asia emerging as a pivotal hub for the semiconductor and advanced computer manufacturing sectors. Although artificial intelligence products have emerged as a significant force driving commodity trade, the report cautions that the growth in their trade will not inevitably lead to widespread developmental benefits.
