According to three sources familiar with the matter, NVIDIA plans to invest in d-Matrix, a seven-year-old AI server chip developer that is also a rival. This investment is one of NVIDIA's initiatives to make its own technology compatible with competing chip designers and integrate them into its hardware ecosystem, despite NVIDIA's recent expansion of market share against nearly all its rivals. It is also NVIDIA's first investment in an AI inference chip startup since reaching a $20 billion licensing agreement with Groq in December last year, indicating that it will not bet solely on one such company.
