On October 7, fueled by the robust demand for artificial intelligence, analysts predict that Samsung Electronics' operating profit for the third quarter will experience an almost ninefold increase. However, since late August, analysts have adjusted their forecasts downward by nearly 8%. Amidst the decelerating pace of memory chip price hikes and the appreciating Korean won, the memory chip manufacturer is projected to announce an operating profit of KRW 106.1 trillion (approximately USD 79.1 billion) for the third quarter. This represents a significant rise from the KRW 12.17 trillion recorded in the same period last year, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of record-breaking operating profits. Nevertheless, the deceleration in price increases during the third quarter has sparked concerns that chip profit margins may have reached their peak, casting doubt on the longevity of the AI-driven spending surge. SK Securities analyst Han Dong-hee anticipates that Samsung's operating profit margin for memory chips in the third quarter will remain at 76%, unchanged from the previous quarter. Samsung is scheduled to unveil its preliminary third-quarter results on Thursday, with comprehensive data to be disclosed in late October.
