YMTC anticipates that the global NAND flash memory market will continue to grapple with a supply shortage for the next three years, with the existing supply-demand gap possibly stretching until 2029. As a result, storage chip prices in consumer electronics, such as SSDs and smartphones, are projected to stay elevated for a considerable duration. In the second quarter of 2026, YMTC secured a 14% market share in NAND bit shipments, ranking third worldwide, just behind Samsung and SK Hynix. This surge in market share was mainly fueled by robust growth in consumer-grade NAND sales. However, due to lower average selling prices compared to enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSDs), YMTC only managed to secure the fifth position globally in terms of revenue. In response, YMTC is stepping up its shift towards enterprise-grade SSDs, with the ambition that such products will constitute roughly half of its shipments by the end of 2026. Currently, AI-fueled demand for enterprise-grade SSDs is skyrocketing, representing 48% of global NAND bit shipments in the second quarter of 2026 and is expected to surpass 50% by year-end, emerging as the primary growth sector. Nevertheless, the NAND flash memory supply crunch is anticipated to linger until 2027, with industry experts predicting that 2028 could herald a turning point, leading to a decline in NAND prices.
