Fueled by the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, there has been a significant uptick in demand for chips manufactured through mature processes. These include power management integrated circuits (ICs), microcontroller units (MCUs), and sensors. The decision by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to exit certain segments of the mature process market has resulted in an overflow of orders. In response, United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) has declared a price hike effective from 2027. Concurrently, Powerchip Technology Corporation has witnessed its foundry quotations escalate by as much as 40% in select instances.
