On September 17th, AMD published a comprehensive white paper titled "EPYC Venice Architecture and Performance Overview," revealing a series of benchmark results for its sixth-generation flagship EPYC processor, the EPYC 9996. Boasting 256 cores and 512 threads, this processor is tailored for multi-scenario applications, including cloud computing. In the realm of general-purpose computing, the EPYC 9996's overall SPECrate 2026_int_base throughput outperforms the Intel Xeon 6980P (with 128 cores) by 2.37 times and surpasses the Nvidia Vera (with 88 cores) by 2.24 times. When compared to its predecessor, the 192-core flagship EPYC 9965, the EPYC 9996 exhibits an approximate 73% improvement in performance. Furthermore, in the STREAM Triad sustained memory bandwidth test, the 96-core EPYC 9006 platform outperformed the Nvidia Vera 88-core platform by 18%.
