Samsung Electronics has inked a cooperation pact with Arm, embarking on a collaborative endeavor to develop next-generation edge AI System-on-Chips (SoCs). Arm has given the green light for the necessary funding, signaling a pivotal stage in their partnership. As per the agreement, the chip will be constructed upon Arm's AIC architecture and RTL codebase. Samsung's System LSI Business division will take charge of the SoC design, while Samsung Foundry will oversee mass production utilizing a cutting-edge 2nm process. Arm will extend technical assistance and work in tandem to oversee project advancement, with Samsung shouldering the responsibility for the final manufacturing and delivery stages. The chip is designed to alleviate the strain on cloud computing resources and boost local computing efficiency at the edge, with OpenAI emerging as a potential client. This alliance will not only foster internal synergy between Samsung's chip design and foundry operations but also garner invaluable mass production experience with the 2nm process in the edge AI domain, setting the stage for securing lucrative high-end AI chip orders.
