According to a report by South Korea's The Herald, SK Hynix is considering adjusting its supply model for HBM4E memory base dies, shifting from relying solely on TSMC to a dual-supply approach involving both TSMC and Intel. This move aims to reduce costs, enhance bargaining power, and alleviate the pressure of high foundry costs from TSMC. SK Hynix plans to start as early as with HBM4E, entrusting a portion of base die production to Intel to establish a multi-supplier system. Currently, SK Hynix has established an HBM architecture design team in the United States to support next-generation customized HBM designs.
