According to South Korea's Chosun Ilbo, the U.S. government is in discussions with the South Korean government, aiming to ramp up memory chip production within the United States to alleviate supply chain pressures. The lion's share of global DRAM production capacity is currently centered in South Korea, with SK Hynix and Samsung standing as the principal manufacturers. The Trump administration is making efforts to convince these two industry giants to augment their investments in DRAM wafer fabrication plants across the United States, thereby enhancing the robustness of the supply chain.

Previously, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce has openly called upon South Korean chip companies to broaden their production footprint in the United States. Meanwhile, the South Korean government maintains that the U.S. requests for semiconductor investment are not directly linked to the $350 billion investment pledge made by the two nations the preceding year. At present, negotiations are still in progress, and details regarding the scale of investments and specific locations remain undisclosed.
