On August 25, 2026, Apple officially launched the M5 Ultra chip, heralding it as the most formidable proprietary chip ever produced. For the first time within the M series, this chip incorporates a quad-chiplet architecture. It seamlessly integrates two dual-chiplet M5 Max processors into a single, cohesive unit, leveraging cutting-edge UltraFusion interconnection technology that boasts an inter-chip bandwidth of 4.4TB/s.

The M5 Ultra is outfitted with a 36-core CPU, comprising 12 super cores and 24 performance cores. When compared to the M3 Ultra, it offers a remarkable boost in performance, with single-thread capabilities surging up to 1.25 times and multi-thread performance escalating up to 1.3 times.

Regarding the GPU, the M5 Ultra flaunts up to 80 cores, each fortified with an integrated neural accelerator. This configuration propels AI task performance to new heights, achieving a peak GPU performance that is up to 4.5 times greater than that of the M3 Ultra. Furthermore, it enhances graphics performance by up to 40% in comparison to its predecessor.

Additionally, the chip accommodates up to 512GB of unified memory, with a bandwidth of 1.2TB/s, marking a 50% increase over the M3 Ultra's memory bandwidth.
