On August 20th, the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on the semiconductor industry chain keeps growing stronger. It's anticipated that, commencing in the latter half of 2026, a fresh wave of chip price surges will fully materialize, with even greater force. On August 10th, Maxscend, a leading RF chip company, proclaimed a price hike for its entire lineup of RF products, effective from September 1st. The very next day, Nationz Technologies followed suit, announcing a price increase of 10% to 20% for some of its MCU products. Among the international behemoths, STMicroelectronics (ST) is set to implement its third price adjustment of the year on August 23rd, while Analog Devices (ADI) will also carry out its second round of price hikes starting from September 13th. From memory chips to MCUs, and from RF front-ends to power semiconductors, price increase notifications for a wide array of chip types are being issued at a frequent pace. When compared to the first half of the year, the hallmarks of this current round of price hikes encompass: a sharp uptick in demand for AI computing power, which is generating a 'siphon effect' on mature process capacity. This, combined with escalating supply chain costs, a tight supply-demand balance, and a growing appetite for domestic substitutes, is collectively propelling the semiconductor industry into a phase characterized by both volume and price growth.
