Hu Weiwu, Chairman of Loongson Technology, revealed in a recent public announcement that the company’s inaugural general-purpose GPU, the 9A1000, has successfully concluded its research and development phase and has been officially submitted for tape-out. According to publicly available data, the 9A1000 is designed as a consumer-grade, entry-level discrete GPU, offering graphical rendering capabilities on par with AMD’s RX 550, which was released several years ago. This performance level adequately supports routine office multimedia tasks, mainstream lightweight online gaming, and fundamental graphic design work. Furthermore, the chip boasts AI computing power in the tens of TOPS, fulfilling the demands of everyday, lightweight AI applications.
