SMIC's Zhao Haijun: Customers' Advance Procurement Mitigates Some Effects of Terminal Market Downturn

On August 14, Zhao Haijun, Co-CEO of SMIC, disclosed at the second-quarter earnings call that, regarding wafer revenue categorized by application this quarter, the revenue shares from smartphones, computers and tablets, consumer electronics, connectivity and wearables, as well as industrial and automotive sectors, stood at 17%, 16%, 44%, 7%, and 17% respectively. Notably, all these sectors witnessed a month-on-month rise in absolute revenue. The company has strategically directed its production capacity towards high-demand areas, resulting in an approximate 40% month-on-month surge in absolute revenue within the artificial intelligence support, computer and tablet, as well as industrial and automotive sectors. Despite a general downturn in the terminal markets of other application areas, the absolute revenue in the smartphone, consumer electronics, connectivity, and wearables sectors still registered growth of 8%, 16%, and 13% respectively, largely attributed to customers' advance procurement of goods.
