On August 14, Zhao Haijun, co-CEO of SMIC, announced at the Q2 earnings conference that the company witnessed a notable uptick in both wafer shipment volumes and prices during the second quarter, culminating in quarterly revenue surpassing the $3 billion mark. Key operational metrics demonstrated substantial growth on both a year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter basis. Wafer shipments surged by 14.4% QoQ, while the average selling price of wafers climbed 5.7% QoQ. This spike in shipments was predominantly fueled by a robust demand for AI-supporting chips and customers advancing their delivery schedules. Throughout the quarter, SMIC augmented its monthly production capacity by 8,000 12-inch wafers, achieving a capacity utilization rate of 93.7%, marking a 0.6 percentage point increase QoQ.
