Google is currently in the process of crafting a specialized server chip, dubbed Frozen v2. This innovative chip is designed to seamlessly integrate specific components of the Gemini model's architecture directly into its hardware, thereby significantly boosting the efficiency of AI inference processes. Based on the projections made by Google's engineers, the Frozen v2 chip is anticipated to enhance the token processing capacity per unit of power consumption by a staggering 6- to 10-fold when compared to the current TPUs. The chip is slated for deployment in 2028 and is not intended to supplant TPUs; rather, it will function as a dedicated variant within Google's bespoke chip product range.
