Six months after the tape-out of the M6 chip, Apple initiated the tape-out process for the M7 chip. The M7 series is expected to be released between 2027 and 2028, with the M7 Ultra designed to support up to 1.5TB of memory, though the specific configuration rollout depends on supply chain conditions. Currently, the industry is facing a shortage of memory chips, prompting Apple to adjust the memory options for the Mac Studio accordingly. Additionally, Apple is developing the M8 chip with enhanced AI performance, as well as a new high-end Mac chip codenamed Cardinal. The new processors in 2028 will adopt a 1.4-nanometer process.
