The stock price of SK Hynix has experienced pronounced fluctuations, causing the yield disparity of single-stock leveraged ETFs—which are designed to deliver twice the daily price movement—to expand to a significant 5.5 percentage points. In contrast, the yield gap for comparable leveraged ETFs tied to Samsung Electronics remains relatively narrow at just 1.8 percentage points. Industry analysts have identified several factors contributing to this divergence, primarily SK Hynix's inherently higher volatility in its underlying assets, disparities in the allocation ratios of product futures, and differences in fund management proficiency. They also caution that certain smaller-scale leveraged products may become ensnared in a detrimental cycle of diminishing returns. Addressing these concerns, South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Choo Kyung-ho, has announced that the government is actively investigating strategies to refine single-stock leveraged products, aiming to curb their potential adverse effects.
