According to sources, between April and May of this year, EDA behemoth Synopsys informed more than 10 chip manufacturers—among them Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix—that it would discontinue some of its legacy software suites for wafer fabrication process control. This means the company will stop providing future version updates for these tools and will only meet its existing maintenance obligations. Synopsys explained that this strategic shift is intended to reallocate resources toward higher-value sectors, such as AI chip design, which promise greater profit margins.
