On July 4, Micron Technology officially commenced the expansion project of its factory in western Japan, with a total investment of 1.5 trillion yen to produce advanced memory chips. This expansion is part of a global capacity expansion plan to meet the demands of the artificial intelligence industry, and the Japanese government will provide subsidies of up to 500 billion yen. After the expansion, the factory will enhance the energy efficiency and data transmission efficiency of chips required for AI services and autonomous vehicles, with production and shipment expected to commence around summer 2028.
