The two tech behemoths of South Korea, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, have jointly declared an ambitious expansion strategy to be implemented over the forthcoming ten years. The total investment is projected to soar to a staggering KRW 1,350 trillion (equivalent to roughly US$870 billion). This comprehensive plan encompasses several pivotal domains, such as wafer fabrication, AI data centers, and memory production. Its overarching goal is to elevate South Korea's standing in the global semiconductor and AI industrial chains, while simultaneously countering the competitive threats posed by industry rivals like TSMC and Intel. In addition, the South Korean government is set to roll out a range of supportive measures, encompassing tax breaks, policy-based financing, streamlined administrative services, and government grants.
