Europe is stepping up its response to the U.S.-led chip export restrictions, with the Netherlands taking a prominent role. This week, Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Schreinemacher, visited Washington to meet with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce and congressional leaders. During these discussions, she openly expressed opposition to the Multilateral Alignment of Critical Hardware Technology Controls (MATCH) Act. This proposed legislation calls on U.S. allies, including the Netherlands, to align their export restrictions on China. However, the Netherlands contends that such alignment infringes upon its national sovereignty and corporate interests, asserting that each country should have the autonomy to shape its own export control policies.
