On May 30th, news emerged that the Beijing Space Intelligence Computing Research Institute has recently been formally registered and established within the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as Yizhuang. This newly minted institute is set to concentrate its efforts on the research and development (R&D) of pivotal shared technologies. These include onboard computing chips, inter-satellite laser communication, space energy and heat dissipation mechanisms, integrated space-ground networks, and standards for space security.
It aims to construct a comprehensive service system that spans the entire spectrum from technology R&D to achievement transformation, which essentially means the commercialization of research findings. The institute has laid out ambitious plans to finalize the development and launch of its inaugural experimental satellite by the year 2028. Looking ahead, the institute is also poised to drive forward the networking of multiple experimental satellites, with the ultimate goal of achieving trial operations of an 'integrated space-ground intelligence computing network'.
