The proposed agreement for Samsung Electronics to allocate a staggering KRW 40 trillion (approximately USD 26.6 billion) in bonuses exclusively to its chip division employees has encountered a significant obstacle. A labor union representing workers from non-semiconductor sectors has filed for an injunction with a South Korean court, seeking to suspend the ongoing voting process regarding this preliminary agreement. This union, predominantly made up of staff from the Digital Experience division, contends that the primary labor union, which is spearheading the wage negotiations, is displaying a bias towards the chip division, thereby neglecting the interests of employees in other sectors. Currently, union members are in the midst of voting, and as of Monday evening, 87% of eligible voters had already participated, with the voting scheduled to wrap up on Wednesday.
