On May 18, the A-share market underwent a day of volatility, with the three primary indices—Shanghai Composite, Shenzhen Component, and ChiNext—all opening on a weaker note, only to stage a temporary rebound before ultimately retreating. The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.09% lower, the Shenzhen Component Index shed 0.2%, and the ChiNext Index saw a more pronounced decline of 0.36%. The combined trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges shrank to 2.89 trillion yuan, marking a 450.5 billion yuan decrease from the previous trading session, with over 3,000 stocks finishing in negative territory.
