Samsung Electronics is currently embroiled in its most serious labor crisis to date. Over 45,000 employees are set to embark on an 18-day strike beginning May 21, following a breakdown in negotiations between labor and management over bonus distribution. Leveraging the soaring demand for AI-driven memory solutions, Samsung posted record-breaking profits in the first quarter of 2026. However, employees feel that the company is reluctant to share the fruits of this growth. The labor union is calling for the removal of bonus caps and the allocation of 15% of operating profits as dividends. In contrast, Samsung has put forward a proposal to allocate 10%.
