On May 7, AMD’s stock price soared to an all-time high. Its robust growth outlook has bolstered investor confidence in the enduring demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, fueling a global rally in semiconductor stocks. Analysts and investors widely regard AMD as a formidable challenger to Nvidia’s stronghold in the AI chip sector, with the company reaping substantial benefits from its focus on the CPU business. As enterprises pivot toward agentic artificial intelligence—systems capable of autonomous operations—the demand landscape has expanded beyond GPUs for training large models, with CPUs emerging as increasingly vital components. “Nvidia enjoyed a near-monopoly in the AI chip market for two years, but now other players are gradually closing the gap. Simultaneously, the market’s continuous expansion offers ample room for future growth,” noted Michael O’Rourke, chief market strategist at Jones Trading. Matt Brytzman, a senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, also emphasized, “AMD’s competitiveness now extends beyond GPU rivalry with Nvidia, shifting toward broader computing opportunities. As AI workloads surge, both CPUs and GPUs will play indispensable roles.”
