On May 6, 2026, due to the impact of the global memory shortage, Apple made another round of adjustments to its desktop Mac product lineup, eliminating several models with high-memory configurations. Presently, the Mac mini featuring 64GB of memory and the M3 Ultra Mac Studio boasting 256GB of memory are no longer up for purchase. Following the adjustment, the M3 Ultra version of the Mac Studio solely retains the 96GB memory configuration. On the other hand, the maximum memory capacity of the M4 Pro version of the Mac mini is capped at 48GB. In the meantime, the estimated shipping time for the Mac Studio has been extended to 9 to 10 weeks, which signals a constrained supply situation. Previously, Apple had already discontinued the Mac mini equipped with a 256GB SSD storage, thereby pushing up the entry-level price. Apple CEO Tim Cook remarked that the Mac mini and Mac Studio will face a shortage in the upcoming months, with memory costs projected to surge notably. By trimming down configuration options, Apple is ensuring the availability of its basic models.
