Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the successful tape-out of the AI5 chip and provided an outlook on future plans for in-house chip development. The AI5 chip delivers five times the effective computing power of the dual-chip AI4 solution. The subsequent AI6 chip will be manufactured using a 2nm process at Samsung Electronics' foundry in Taylor, Texas, USA, and will be equipped with LPDDR6 memory, doubling its performance. The AI6.5 chip will be manufactured by TSMC's U.S. subsidiary, TSMC Arizona, using a 2nm process, further enhancing performance. In both the AI6 and AI6.5 chips, approximately half of the TRIP AI compute accelerators will be tightly integrated with SRAM to boost effective bandwidth. The memory modules packaged on both sides of the AI5 chip are likely to be LPDDR5X, while the upgrade to LPDDR6 for the AI6 is a natural progression.
