On April 13, 2026, a user from the Chiphell forum reported a model identification error concerning the Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus processor they had bought. This issue arose after they replaced their motherboard. Specifically, after upgrading to a Gigabyte B860I Mini ITX motherboard, both software and hardware diagnostic tools, including CPU-Z, Windows 11, AIDA64, and the BIOS, consistently misidentified the processor as the higher-end Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. Previously, when using a Colorful motherboard, the model was correctly identified. After verification, it was confirmed that the processor's packaging label and the actual core count (18 cores) were accurate, ruling out the possibility of it being the 24-core, 24-thread Ultra 7 270K Plus. The user even tried updating the BIOS to the latest version, but the problem remained unresolved. A preliminary analysis indicates that the root cause might be a flaw in the CPU identification reading logic within the BIOS of the Gigabyte B860I motherboard. This flaw could be causing an incorrect SKU name string to be sent to the operating system and third-party monitoring software, thus setting off a cascade of misidentifications.
