On Thursday, April 9th, Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, unveiled in his annual letter to shareholders that the company is exploring the option of marketing its self-developed chips to external entities. Presently, Amazon's internal chip unit is already raking in annualized revenues surpassing $20 billion. Should this division be transformed into a standalone entity and offered to both AWS clientele and other third-party customers, the annualized revenue could skyrocket to a staggering $50 billion. Traditionally, Amazon has mainly provided chip computing capabilities on a 'lease' basis via AWS. However, the company is now contemplating a shift towards directly selling chip racks.
